Meet James Stokes – Northern & Central Wisconsin Senior Portrait Studio Photographer

I’m James Stokes—born in the heart of Utah and raised on a fifth-generation dairy farm in Amherst Junction, Wisconsin. My love for the outdoors started early: backyard sand volleyball, lake adventures behind a boat, and a calendar full of Cross-Country, basketball, baseball, and track at Amherst High School.

Today, I’m happily married to my middle school best friend, Katie Shotliff of Colby, WI, and together we’re raising ten incredible kids. From our oldest thriving in college out in Arizona to our toddler keeping us on our toes, life on our hobby farm in Medford, Wisconsin is full of chickens, dogs, and plenty of spilled milk around the table.

Photography has been part of my life since I was a sophomore in high school. Over the past 13+ years as a full-time photographer, I’ve specialized in creating studio-quality senior portraits that showcase each student’s personality and story. I combine my Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management & Leadership with a creative, detail-oriented approach—ensuring every session is organized, relaxed, and a little bit adventurous.

When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll find me coaching, mentoring teens through youth ministry, or serving on local boards and non-profits. Faith, family, and community guide everything I do. I’m also a self-confessed history buff, social sciences enthusiast, and animal lover—especially dogs and horses.

Whether you’re looking for classic studio portraits or vibrant outdoor images across Northern and Central Wisconsin—from Medford and Wausau to Eau Claire and beyond—James Stokes & Co. Photographers is here to make your senior year unforgettable.
